The main purpose of the project is to contribute to our theoretical and empirical understanding of ways in which young adults use interactive technologies in a museum setting, including the interplay between technology, visitors and different types of learning settings. Through the project, new knowledge will be gained about connected learning when young visitors combine physical and online museum experiences. In theoretical terms, the project draws on socio-cultural education, media and museum studies, in addition to participatory design studies. In methodological terms, the project applies a mixed-method approach involving observations and interviews.
In empirical terms, I study the relations between on site and online learning, focusing first on two onsite exhibitions at a cultural history museum, Moesgaard Museum “Seven vikings” and “Illerup Ådal” followed by my facilitation of online focus groups of young adults aged 13-17 and 18-23, respectively. The focus groups will provide input and feedback and act as co-designers in the formation of interactions created for a major, new Moesgaard museum site.
